Questions about this 3D model

How far is the Moon from Earth?

The average distance between Earth’s centre and the Moon’s centre is about 384,400 kilometres. Roughly thirty Earth diameters fit along that distance.

Is the Earth-Moon distance always the same?

No. The Moon’s orbit is slightly elliptical. The Moon therefore moves closer to Earth during one part of its orbit and farther away during another; the average distance does not describe its position at every moment.
